Why do they distribute pills at all in these little custom boxes in the US?

Everywhere else in the world you just get a prepackaged box with blisters inside. No customisation at all. No name of the doctor, no name of the patient. Just on the prescription

It’s not a custom box. In general, (from my other prescriptions, in California) there’s a stick-on label attached with the name and strength of the medication, date prescribed, doctor and patient names, basic dosage instructions and expiration date. Usually in a bottle, since the pharmacy buys most pills in bulk. Or you can request they put your pills in a bubble pak. I think mostly it’s to help users keep track of their different meds, and know who to contact for a refill. But also good in case of a recall. State law says what minimum information would be on the label.

In this case, it’s likely just the 2 pills in a paper box, from the manufacturer, but it would still have the label stuck on.

Your doctor can customize the instructions as they see fit and the pharmacy will print it on the bottle.

Since its’ the US, presumably so someone knows who to sue. Litigation is the US’ primary domestic product.

What a world we live in…. If it weren’t for reality I would be against this

Edit for context: having prescribers name on the packaging sticker helps with evidence collection if they are abusing prescribing privileges (ie. Opiates before additional controls). This is all assuming your government is sane
